It's very obscure in defjam's hands - he only speaks it too people who don't understand it.
And he uses the Gurmukhi script in his speech bubbles.

There are around 130 million Punjabi speakers in the world making it the ninth most spoken language. It's hardly obscure innit?

Really did notice a difference between how they talked in the north and south when I went. In the north they sounded almost musical, south sounded aggressive and stuttered.
I personally dunno anything and barely got understood when I said thankyou.
Wonder if non-English speakers hear any difference between how different people speak English.

stomper,
One is a bank and the other is a DIY store..?
On the language front, I do a good line in Gibberish, enough French to order a decent steak, and a fair spread of Spanish, having sold property out there around the Murcia / Guardamar areas for a year or two.
All completely useless now (unless you want a steak)...

I can speak Hebrew to dogs. People dont understand me but dogs do. I can say (but not spell) 'Thank you' in Arabic. So collecting work from a Palestinian student, I said "Shukran" The student then said, "Make sure you say that with a K not a Q, because that is a very rude word.
OK
What the fuck is the difference between a spoken K and a spoken Q

It should be 'central' Thai, as I've spent most of my time here in Bangkok. My mrs is from Samut Prakan province, which is basically next door (and virtually a part of Bangkok ...). However, most of my speaking 'practice' was with taxi drivers from Isarn. When I moved to work in the South for a year, where they speak really quickly, I met a lady from Isarn, who thought my wife must be from there as she could pick it out in my Thai accent. Funny old world, eh? How about you?

The Uighurs' own language is indeed Turkic/ central Asian - I believe their name for Xinjiang is East Turkestan.
But I was referring to how they speak Mandarin - with an accent I've never been able to penetrate!
